As the violent events multiply, we begin to talk about the criminal in a new way. The villain is sick, bitter, a Devil. We just don't know what to do with our dream of thousands of disasters rushing over us. Why? Who? We haven't let ourselves reply to all this out-of-scale carnage. We aren't naming things, or making meaning, or even music. We are changing so completely that change isn't the word. There is one life behind all of this death, and that life is creating the dead and the survivors. ----
